Husky HB4500 Brute

Husky HB4500 4500 lbs. Brute Power Jack, Hammer Gray Finish

Picking up our top prize for best electric tongue jack is the Husky HB4500, which impresses first and foremost with a design that makes it more durable than many other options on our list.

It employs a ball and screw approach that reduces friction during lifting and results in less strain on the motor, reduces the likelihood of catching or getting stuck, and prolongs the life of the jack.

Beyond the ball and screw engineering, the Husky Brute also uses gears made of hardened steel as well as soldered connections, so you’ll have no concerns over potential faulty wiring that you might have with less durable models. On top of that, the cover is UV- and water-resistant, adding to the durability of this electric trailer tongue jack.

On top of the impressive design, the HB4500 electric tongue jack also provides the second-largest lift capacity on our list at 4500 lb.

Bottom Line: The Husky HB4500 has a superior construction than most, and combined with some clever engineering to further increase its durability and lifespan, creates one of the strongest electric tongue jacks we came across.

Best Electric Tongue Jack: Relax While it Does the Heavy Lifting

While mobile homes can drive off at the drop of a hat, plenty of RVs need to be towed. One of the more overlooked, and frustrating, tasks with towed travel trailers is connecting them to your tow vehicle.

Unless you luck out with your camping location, chances are you will need to adjust the position of your trailer every time you want to hitch it to your towing vehicle. Whilst a manual jack can perform this task, they are time-consuming and energy-draining both at the beginning and end of the day.

That is why we have put together a helpful buyer’s guide, so you can make an informed decision about which electric trailer jack is right for you.

We have also provided a list of electric trailer jack reviews for 9 of the best, highlighting what each model does and who it is best suited for.

Benefits of Using an Electric Jack

If you have a heavier RV to tow the advantage of electric tongue jacks is pretty self-explanatory, but even with a smaller travel trailer, they are still beneficial. Not only can they save you time and energy, but they can also save you from suffering an unfortunate accident. Some other benefits include:

  • A safer means of lifting an A-frame trailer
  • Makes it easier to connect the trailer
  • Is much quicker than lifting manually
  • Takes less effort to lift a trailer by manual jack
  • Makes it easier to keep the trailer level

Types of RV Trailer Jacks

Electric

An electric-powered trailer jack will plug into a 12V outlet and use a powerful motor to lift the trailer hitch. This is by far the preferred type for many reasons, though it is significantly more expensive than a manual option. It is worth noting that many electric tongue jacks can be used manually should there be no power source.

Manual

A manual tongue jack works similarly to a standard car jack, though there are a couple of different configurations. That said, a manual trailer jack often uses a crank to lift the hitch and costs less money than their electric counterparts.

Things to Consider When Buying an Electric Tongue Jack

Lift Capacity

The lift capacity of an electric RV jack is rated in pounds but doesn’t represent the total weight of the trailer being lifted. Instead, lift capacity refers to the trailer’s tongue weight which is the downward pressure of the coupler on the hitch. Tongue weight is typically between 10 to 15% of the RV’s gross trailer weight.

Therefore, a tongue jack with a maximum lift capacity of 4000 lb will be able to lift a trailer weighing between 40,000 to 60,000 lb.

Lift capacity may seem like one of the more important factors to consider, but only the heaviest towed RVs need to worry about it.

Lift Height

The lift height is measured in inches and represents the maximum height that a tongue jack can raise your hitch. Keep in mind, there are two parts to an electric jack’s lift height: the dropdown height and the full stroke height.

The drop-down height is how far down the electric trailer jack leg can be lowered once it is installed. The full stroke height is how high the jack can lift the hitch which does not account for the natural height of the hitch.

The lift height of an electric jack may be one of the more important factors depending on the size of your tow vehicle. If you have a large pickup truck with raised suspension, chances are you will need an electric trailer jack with a taller lift height.

Durability

Generally, an electric tongue jack’s durability can be measured by how resistant it is to weather, the quality of gear works and electronics, and the materials used in its construction.

Unfortunately, durability can be difficult to pin down precisely for electric RV jacks since there are no standards used to measure it.

The JQ-3500 also comes with a wealth of convenient features including bubble-style leveling for proper hitch connection, an LED light for assistance in the dark, as well as water-resistant electrical components and heavy-duty hardened steel gears.

On the other hand, the JQ-3500 has been known for having some wiring issues which, while not an expensive fix, can be frustrating if it occurs while out on the road. That said, should you run into such issues, this model can also be used manually.

  • PROs

    • Is less expensive
    • Has a manual crank override
    • Has numerous convenience features
    • Has a maximum height of 32”
  • CONs

Bottom-Line: When you have a tow vehicle whose hitch sits more than 2’ off of the ground, the Quick Products JQ-3500 offers close to 3’ of clearance to make sure that even the tallest lift kits pose no problem for connecting your trailer.

Lippert (285318) 3500LB

Easiest to Use

Lippert Power Tongue Jack for A-Frame Travel, Cargo, and Utility Trailers or 5th Wheel RVs - 3,500 lb. Lift Capacity, 18' Vertical Range, 30 AMPS of Power

Like many trailer jacks on our list, the Lippert 3500LB offers plenty of power and durability, what sets this model apart is just how easy it is to use.

This power trailer jack provides one of the easiest leveling operations with a rocker switch that levels the jack with the push of a button. It boasts a solid maximum lift height of 28 ¾”, the third-highest on our list, with a traveling height of 18 inches. And if you find yourself needing your jack in the dark, you will appreciate the four LED lights that come with the Lippert, making it the brightest jacking device we came across.

This is also one of the more powerful models that we reviewed with a 30-amp motor and helical-cut gears to help reduce noise and improve operating efficiency.

That said, the Lippert doesn’t have any kind of protection from water, so be sure to keep it covered when used in the rain and stored safely when not in use.

  • PROs

    • Has numerous convenience features
    • Helical-cut gears
    • Has a 30-amp motor
    • Maximum height of 28 ¾”
  • CONs

    • Not waterproof

Uriah Products UC500010

Highest Weight Capacity

Uriah Products 5000 Pound Lift Capacity 12 Volt 7 Way Connector Electric Trailer Jack with Easy to Use Switch and Oversized Adjustable Footpad, Black

While most electric tongue jacks are suitable for your average towed RV, the UC500010 from Uriah Products with its list-leading 5000 lb weight capacity steps up when you have an extremely heavy RV. This massive weight capacity allows you to raise a maximum RV trailer weight of between 60,000 and 75,000 lb.

The UC500010 has a ball and screw design to reduce the strain of the load on the motor while also reducing friction and increasing lift efficiency. Aside from assisting with the weight load this also creates less operational noise than some other options on our list.

It also has an oversized footpad to aid with stability, a water-resistant motor, and a one-piece plastic housing for use in any kind of weather.

However, the UC500010 is noted for some quality control issues, though a product that starts well doesn’t seem to suffer durability issues further down the line.

  • PROs

    • Has 5000 lb lift capacity
    • Is water-resistant
    • Maximum height of 31 ½”
  • CONs

    • More expensive
    • Has QC issues

Bottom-Line: The Uriah UC500010 is there when you have a heavier RV trailer to tow and can’t afford to gamble with a jack that may or may not be able to handle your massive load.

RAM Trailer Products EJ-3520-BBX

Recommended

RAM Trailer Products EJ-3520-BBX 3,500 lb. Electric Trailer Jack with Drop Leg - Black

The RAM EJ-3520 isn’t distinguishable from the other options on our list in any particular category but neither does it fall short in any meaningful way either.

With a 3500 lb weight capacity, it is at the lower end of the scale as compared to other models in these reviews. However, if this is compatible with your RV weight then you get an excellent maximum lift height of 28 ½” which sits near the top of our list.

Even better, the RAM EJ-3520 doesn’t suffer some of the motor durability concerns we found with other less expensive models thanks to the use of gears made of hardened steel. Of course, if something does happen, most likely due to an electrical issue than anything else, you can always use this tongue jack manually.

One thing you might want to do if you opt for this model is replace the fastening hardware included as it’s not of the best quality. Also, since it is not a standard size electric tongue jack it can be difficult to install since it is a little too big in places.

  • PROs

    • Less expensive
    • Has hardened steel gears
    • Has a manual override crank
    • Maximum height of 28 ½”
  • CONs

    • Not a standard size electric jack
    • Not the best hardware

Bottom-Line: The RAM tongue jack has a solid maximum lift height and although may not blow you away with too many of its specs, it is a solid, durable option.

Bulldog 500199 A-Frame

Best for Levelling

Bulldog Cases 500199 Powered Drive A-Frame Tongue Jack with Spring Loaded Pull Pin - 4000 lb. Capacity (Black Cover)

The Bulldog 500199 is the perfect model for people who like to go RVing off of the beaten track. For one, this model comes with a single-axis leveler that makes it easier to level your jack on uneven ground than bubble-style levelers that are more commonly used.

On top of that, the Bulldog has a solid maximum lift height of 27” which is great when camping in an area that might have drastically different contour levels. This model also offers a bit more lift weight capacity than some of its competitors at 4000 lb.

Even better, this pull pin swivel jack comes equipped with 3 LED lights so there will be no issues with using it when the sun goes down or on those dark overcast days.

The only thing that might irk you about this Bulldog electric trailer jack is the fact that it takes longer to extend to full height than many other options.

  • PROs

    • Has a 4000 lb lift capacity
    • Maximum lift of 27”
    • Has a single-axis level
    • Has 3 LEDs
  • CONs

    • More expensive
    • Slower operation

Bottom-Line: With an easy-to-read leveler, 3 LED lights, and an above-average weight capacity and maximum lift height this Bulldog A-frame trailer jack is perfect for taking your RV off the beaten path

Husky HB4500 Brute

Editors Choice

Husky HB4500 4500 lbs. Brute Power Jack, Hammer Gray Finish

Plenty of electric tongue jacks we reviewed do one or two things exceptionally well, but this jack can do pretty much everything well. This is why we named the Husky HB4500 as our overall winner.

It has the second-largest lift capacity we reviewed at 4500 lb and so can lift a maximum of between 45,000 and 60,000 lb. This massive lifting capacity is down to the motor’s hardened steel gear works combined with the lift’s ball and screw engineering which reduces the load stress and results in a quieter operation.

This camper tongue jack even comes with 3 LED lights for use in dark conditions as well as using a single axis level and a spring-loaded drop leg pull pin design.

The only real downside of the Husky HB4500 is its maximum lift height sits at only 24”, one of the shorter heights on our list. On the other hand, this is also one of the faster RV power jacks that we came across, able to reach its maximum lift stroke in under a minute.

  • PROs

    • Has a 4500 lb lift capacity
    • Gears made of hardened steel
    • Uses a ball screw design
    • Has 3 LEDs
  • CONs

    • More expensive
    • Has shorter maximum height

Bottom-Line: The Husky HB4500 electric trailer tongue jack impresses across the board with one of the fastest lifting operations combined with one of the largest maximum lift capacities.

F2C Adjustable Height A-Frame

Best Budget

F2C Adjustable Height 3500 Lb 12-Volt A-Frame RV Trailer Jack Electric Power Tongue(#1)

With a weight capacity rating of 3500 lb, the F2C A-Frame trailer jack is a solid choice for those who don’t have the heaviest of RV trailers. As one of the least expensive models that we found, the F2C is easily our best pick for those on a budget.

What is surprising, despite its low price, is its construction. Made with durable stainless steel and then powder-coated this RV power jack won’t fall prey to rust or corrosion.

It comes with the usual features seen on most jacks such as a bubble-style leveler with a protective cap but also some not seen on other models such as the removable footplate.

One thing to worry about with the F2C jack is the motor which is not known for being the most durable or having the longest lifespan. Also, its maximum lifting height is shorter than most at 18”.

  • PROs

    • Less expensive
    • Has a durable body
    • Has a water-sealed switch
  • CONs

    • Has shorter maximum lifting height
    • Not the most durable motor

Bottom-Line: If you are the occasional RVer who goes out on weekends or for vacations, the F2C is a great economical option that costs far less than some competitors.

HOTSYSTEM Power A-Frame

Best Value

HOTSYSTEM 4000 lbs Electric Trailer Power A-Frame Tongue Jack with Drop Leg for RV Camper Traveler, 12V DC, Blue

If you are looking for the right balance between specs and cost then this HOTSYSTEM model may be the electric jack for you.

It has a solid lift capacity of 4000 lb and can handle maximum trailer loads between 40,000 and 60,000 lb. A big part of this is due to its powerful 28-amp motor, as well as its durable construction made of galvanized steel and polypropylene.

It has the same convenience features as most other models such as an electric leveling function, a bubble style leveler, and an LED light.

That said, it is reasonably priced with these specs because it takes a bit longer to extend than some of the other models we reviewed. Also, it has one of the shorter maximum lift heights on this list with an 8-inch adjustable drop leg and 14 inches of travel giving a total lift height of only 22”.

  • PROs

    • Has a 4000 lb lift capacity
    • 28-amp motor
    • Numerous convenience features
  • CONs

    • Slower operation
    • Has a shorter maximum height

Bottom-Line: While the HOTSYSTEM may not lift as quickly or as high as some of the other top-performers, it still provides plenty of power and durability combined with a surprising amount of convenience.

Libra (26042) Trailer/RV Electric Power A-Frame

Most Waterproof

LIBRA 3500lbs Trailer RV Electric Power A-Frame Tongue Jack 26042

The Libra 26042 A-frame jack is built with a seamless one-piece cover, has rainproof buttons, and has a drainage design built-in to the body. To further ensure you never have to worry about water damage it also comes with a waterproof head cover as well.

The Libra jack does not top our list in too many areas, but the inclusion of a 5 ½” footplate helps it remain more stable than some of its competitors throughout the lift. It is also easier to install this model than some of the more expensive options we came across too.

That said, the Libra can be a bit hit or miss in some of the most important areas, namely in the durability department, as both the wiring and the motor are not known for having lengthy lifespans. This jack has a weight capacity of 3,500 lb and only sports a maximum lift of 22”, though it is at least stable when fully extended.

  • PROs

    • Less expensive
    • Water-resistant
    • Has a 5 ½” jack foot
    • Is easy to install
  • CONs

    • Has a shorter maximum height
    • Not the most durable

Bottom-Line: The Libra is best-suited for those RVers who live in wetter climates and only go RVing now and then, though it does at least offer plenty of build durability and is easy to install.
